John Phil Hamlet, the son of Hubert and Sarah Suzana Hamlet, was born September 5, 1919, near Buffalo, MO. He departed this life after a long illness on Monday, January 7, 2013. At the time of his passing, he was 93 years, four months and two days of age. He spent his entire life in Dallas and Polk counties with the exception of his World War II military service in England. Phil was united in marriage to Aimie Marie Johnson on July 5, 1942, in Bolivar, MO, to this union were born five sons. He and Aimie were blessed with 53 years of happy married life.
After completing his military service he began a lifelong career of truck driving and freight delivery where he worked for Campbell 66 and Humansville truck lines. One of Phil’s proud moments was on July 5, 1948, when he drove the news camera truck for the Dedication of Simon Bolivar statue. Phil was well known among local merchants for his cheerful whistle. He could always be seen around town with his sons, on the freight truck and working with them in the garden.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Aimie; one son John Phil Hamlet, II; and all his brothers and sisters.
Surviving Phil are four sons: Roger Hamlet and wife Pearlena of Morrisville, MO, Lee Hamlet and wife Yvonne of Branson, MO, Jim Hamlet of Dallas, TX, and Mike Hamlet and wife Patricia of Reeds Spring, MO; six grandchildren: Scott, Chanta, Brian, Chad, Jody, Lisa; one step-granddaughter Michelle; five great grandchildren; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Phil was loved by all that knew him. He was always willing and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone at a time of need. Phil will be greatly missed at home and in his community.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Pitts Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, January 9, 2013, in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel Bolivar, MO.
