Alvin Elwood Johnson, age 83, of Springfield, MO, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012, in his home. He was born June 3, 1928, in Springfield, MO, to Orville and Lauroy (Blount) Johnson. He was a member of the Galloway Baptist Church, and was a Christian all of his life. He served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son David Johnson; and a granddaughter Joyce Darlene Blankenship.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Phyllis Darlene Johnson of the home; 3 children: Carolyn Blankenship and husband Ron of Sparta, MO, Phyllis McQueen and husband Ted of Springfield, MO, and Roy Johnson of Springfield; 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters and 2 half brothers; and a special sister in-law Violet Roller and husband Wesley of Sparta, MO; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 12, 2012, at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, Springfield, MO, with Pastor Kenneth McIntosh officiating. Burial will be held in Temple Hill Cemetery, Bruner, MO. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 11, 2012, in the funeral home.
